The Potential Diagnostic Accuracy of Circulating MicroRNAs for Leukemia: A Meta-Analysis

Abstract: Background: Leukemia is a common malignant disease in the human blood system. Many researchers have proposed circulating microRNAs as biomarkers for the diagnosis of leukemia. We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of circulating miRNAs in the diagnosis of leukemia. Methods: A comprehensive literature search (updated to October 13, 2020) in PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Wanfang database and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) was performed to identify el… Show more

“… 34 At present, let-7 family has been proved to be involved in involved in mammary gland development, proliferation, creation and metastasis of breast cancer. 35 Besides, previous studies believe that plasma retains more proteins to isolate miRNA together, 36 so it has a higher diagnostic value, this is inconsistent with our research results. We found that serum types have a higher diagnostic value in cancer than plasma types.…”

“…Considering all the diagnostic values collectively, these findings strongly suggest that miRNAs have the potential to function as diagnostic markers for distinguishing between HCC and LC patients. Similarly, other meta-analyses have explored the diagnostic biomarker potential of circulating miRNAs in blood for various conditions, including Leukemia ( 49 ), osteosarcoma ( 43 ), cervical intraepithelial neoplasia ( 50 ), bladder cancer ( 51 ), and ovarian cancer ( 52 ). This phenomenon may be attributed to the capacity of miRNAs to play a role in hematopoietic differentiation and modulate the expression of oncogenes or tumor suppressor genes ( 53 ).…”

“…The leukemia cells lose control in proliferation and develop differentiation dysfunction and apoptosis obstruction during cell cycles [ 35 ]. They can aggregate in the bone marrow and certain hematopoietic tissues in a great number, thereby inhibiting the normal hematopoietic function of bone marrow and infiltrating multiple organs [ 36 ]. As techniques in chemotherapy, specifically targeted therapy, and bone marrow transplantation advance constantly in recent years, the treatment effect has been continuously improved [ 36 ].…”
