catalytic systemsPolymerization kinetics of ethylene in ethyl chloride in the presence of two soluble (CsH5)2TiClz/Al(CzH5)&1 (A) and (C5H5)zTiClzAl(CzH~)Cl/Al(CzH~)~Cl (B) has been studied, I n ethyl chloride polymerization rate remains constant over a long period of time. Polymerization rate is of the first order in ethylene and varied antibatically with concentration of Al(CzH5)zCl. Molecular weight of polyethylene increases directly with ethylene concentration. At high concentration of Al-alkyl its participation in the termination of polymer chains is appreciable. Growth (K,) and termination (Kt) constants are determined when polymerizing ethylene in ethyl chloride and benzene in the presence of system A: in ethyl chloride K, = 68 l./mole.sec, Kt = 7.5 l./mole.sec, in benzene K, = 8.3 l./mole.sec, Kt = 0.6 l./mole.sec. For System B in ethyl chloride K, = 110 l./mole.sec. The molecular weight distribution of polyethylene synthesized with the system A is bimodal, and that with system B is unimodal. Experimental data are discussed from the view point of existence of two types of active centers. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: zweier homogener Katalysatorsysteme Die Kinetik der Polymerisation des dthylens wurde in dthylchlorid in Anwesenheit (C5Hs)zTiClz/Al(CzHs)&l (A) und ( C~H~)~T~C~~A~( C~H~) C~/ A~( C Z H~) Z C (B) untersucht. In dthylchlorid ist die Polymerisationsgeschwindigkeit wahrend eines grol3en Zeitraumes konstant. Die Polymerisationsgeschwindigkeit ist in bezug auf das Monomere von erster Ordnung und andert sich umgekehrt zur AI(CzH5)2Cl-Konzentration. Das Molekulargewicht des Polyathylens wachst direkt proportional mit der Monomerkonzentration.Bei hoher Konzentration des Al-Alkyls merkt man seine Beteiligung beim Kettenabbruch. Die Konstanten des Wachstums (Kp) und des Abbruchs (Kt) bei der Polymerisation des dthylens wurden in Athylchlorid und Benzol im System A bestimmt : (Athylchlorid) K, = 68 Z/mol.sec, Kt = 7,5 Z/mol.sec, (Benzol) K, = 8,3 I/mol.sec, Kt = 0,6 I/mol.sec. Fur das System B in Athylchlorid ist K, = 110 Z/mol.sec. Das Polyathylen, das mit dem ersten Katalysator System A synthetisiert wurde, hat eine bimodale Molekulargewichtsverteilung, wahrend die mit dem System B synthetisierte unimodal ist. Die experimentellen Daten weisen auf die Existenz von zwei Arten von aktiven Zentren hin.
