The politics of recognition: symbols, nation building and rival nationalisms

Abstract: Ceremonial initiatives linked to nation-building projects are highly visible in multiethnic states, where governments seem to have adopted a Durkheimian approach in which ceremonies contribute to the strengthening of communities.
