Abstract-Effective power management is an important design concern for modern embedded systems. In this paper, we present an effective framework to integrate both DVS and DPM to optimize the overall energy consumption. We propose an online algorithm to determine the optimal operating frequency and mode transition of a processor based on the runtime workload. Our algorithm runs in O(n) time, where n is the number of the events stored in the system buffer. A feasibility analysis is also presented, which serves as a criteria for setting the system buffer as well as runtime schedulabilty check. The evaluations with specifications of two commercial processors show that our algorithm is more energy-efficient compared to existing schemes in the literature.

Simulation of the IP end-to-end communication system requires accurate models which include the layers 4 to 1 of the ISO/OSI protocol stack. Usually these models are an abstraction of the real system. In this paper we focus on the PHY layer of a G.hn [1] system over PLC and calculate its throughput with respect to the PHY layer parameters: forward error correction (FEC) block size, packet size, repetitions number, etc. The parameters setup influences the efficiency of the PLC network very much. The results show that correct parameter settings for the specific traffic and channel conditions may save either energy required for transmission or equipment costs. This gives the opportunity for efficient scheduling on the medium access (MAC) layer in terms of effective use of the transmission capacity.

Birthing and Mining in John Donne’s “To His Mistress Going to Bed”

This paper uncovers an aspect of "To His Mistress Going to Bed" that has largely been ignored by critics of the poem, namely, the poem's interest in the interrelationship between power, geological exploration, and childbirth. Over the past twenty years, social historians and historians of medicine have explored early modern accounts of childbirth, making it possible for scholars to recover the historical context framing Donne's depictions of childbirth. Placing "To His Mistress" within this historical context forces us to rethink a number of critical assumptions about the poem: in particular that the poem concerns sex but not procreation. In this paper, I explore the implications that medical beliefs about reproduction and the medical politics of childbirth had for Donne as he set about trying to dramatize male desire and uncover the hidden interior of the female body. My historical analysis reveals how the poem fits within the early modern conversation about women's reproductive power and artificial birth. By illuminating interwoven references to childbirth with references to mining, I situate Donne's poem within the larger early modern conversation about women's reproductive power and artificial birth. This repositioning has important implications for Donne's sexual politics and the medical context informing his work.
