Emergency remote teaching and learning (ERTL) represent a critical and challenging time for teachers globally. To understand how Portuguese teachers interpreted their ERTL experiences of the first lockdown, we started by asking: What perspectives do teachers have about ERTL? Answering three open questions made available online between April and May of 2020, a sample of 305 preschool, basic, and secondary school teachers expressed their perspectives on (i) difficulties throughout ERTL; (ii) students’ constraints in participating in ERTL; (iii) the potential and benefits resulting from this exceptional period. Data were analyzed using content analysis. While Portuguese teachers perceived ERTL with concern, a majority also saw it as an opportunity. Workload, work conditions, and time management were the most frequently mentioned difficulties. Regarding students’ constraints, teachers emphasized participation, the role of parents, lack of contact, and autonomy. Despite the constraints and difficulties, teachers highlighted gains such as the development of digital competencies and the opportunity to transform teaching and learning. Only 18 teachers suggested there were no positive outcomes from this experience. Since this is an exploratory study, further studies are needed to triangulate the findings.

This article traces one aspect of Britain's approach to the political economy of energy conservation. It focuses on the forecasting work of Royal Dutch Shell and the deliberations of the Heath government. In the late 1960s, the oil major Shell predicted that oil-producing states would impose an embargo on oil-consuming states. Energy conservation policies would be necessary. In tracing the reception of Shell's ‘crisis’ scenario and its proposed resolution, this article details how these ideas were received by Edward Heath's Conservative government, particularly its ‘think-tank’, the Central Policy Review Staff. In the short term, interventionist policies were proposed so as to demonstrate Britain's ability to operate without ever-increasing oil consumption, while in the long term the idea was that the energy-saving capacities of a freely-operating market could address the problem. The article recounts the confusion these proposed conservation policies provoked, and how the second idea gradually coalesced and ultimately outlasted the Heath government, providing one justification for the eventual privatisation of Britain's formerly nationalised energy industries.

Η Γονική Εμπλοκή (ΓΕ) στην εκπαίδευση του παιδιού συνδέεται με σημαντικά οφέλη για το μαθητή, την οικογένεια, το σχολείο και την κοινότητα γενικότερα. Ωστόσο, στην περίπτωση των γονέων που έχουν παιδιά με Ειδικές Μαθησιακές Δυσκολίες (ΕΜΔ) η ερευνητική δραστηριότητα που καταγράφεται διεθνώς είναι εξαιρετικά περιορισμένη. Σε εθνικό επίπεδο δε οι εκτιμήσεις μας ως προς το ζήτημα αυτό συνάγονται κατά τεκμήριο από ευρήματα ερευνών που μελετούν τη ΓΕ στην εκπαίδευση παιδιών με τυπική ανάπτυξη ή άλλες ειδικές εκπαιδευτικές ανάγκες. Στην παρούσα έρευνα αξιοποιείται το θεωρητικό μοντέλο Γονικής Εμπλοκής των Hoover-Dempsey και Sandler (2005) στο οποίο προσδιορίζονται: α) οι παράγοντες που κινητοποιούν τους γονείς να εμπλακούν στην εκπαιδευτική διαδικασία, β) οι τρόποι με τους οποίους εμπλέκονται, και γ) οι επιδράσεις της εμπλοκής στη σχολική επίδοση των παιδιών. Ο σκοπός της παρούσας διατριβής είναι η συγκριτική μελέτη των παραγόντων που συνδέονται με τη ΓΕ στην εκπαίδευση παιδιών με και χωρίς ΕΜΔ τα οποία φοιτούν σε Δημοτικά Σχολεία της περιφέρειας Αν. Μακεδονίας και Θράκης. Στην έρευνα συμμετείχαν εκπαιδευτικοί και γονείς μαθητών με και χωρίς ΕΜΔ. Αρχικά εντοπίστηκαν οι μαθητές με ΕΜΔ που φοιτούσαν σε σχολεία της περιφέρειας και στη συνέχεια επιλέχθηκαν, με τυχαίο τρόπο, ισάριθμοι ως προς το φύλο, την τάξη φοίτησης και την ηλικία μαθητές χωρίς ΕΜΔ. Συνολικά συμμετείχαν εθελοντικά 197 γονείς από κάθε ομάδα μαθητών και 128 εκπαιδευτικοί. Τα αποτελέσματα της έρευνας κατέδειξαν ότι: α) το ΕΓΕ-Γ συνιστά ένα εργαλείο με αποτελέσματα υψηλής αξιοπιστίας και εγκυρότητας για τη μέτρηση της ΓΕ σε Έλληνες γονείς παιδιών με και χωρίς ΕΜΔ, β) ανάμεσα στις δύο ομάδες γονέων υπάρχουν σημαντικές διαφορές υπέρ των γονέων παιδιών χωρίς ΕΜΔ, σχεδόν σε όλους τους υπό μελέτη παράγοντες (11 από τους 14) που συνδέονται με τη ΓΕ, γ) επιβεβαιώθηκε η εφαρμογή του θεωρητικού μοντέλου σε Έλληνες γονείς παιδιών με και χωρίς ΕΜΔ, καθώς βρέθηκε ότι οι παράγοντες του πρώτου επιπέδου (Κίνητρα, Προσκλήσεις, Πόροι Οικογένειας) προβλέπουν σημαντικά ποσοστά της συνολικής διακύμανσης των παραγόντων του δεύτερου επιπέδου (ΓΕ, Ψυχολογικών Μηχανισμών), δ) οι παράγοντες που εμφανίζονται συχνά σε όλα τα προβλεπτικά μοντέλα είναι εκείνοι που αναφέρονται στις προσκλήσεις παιδιού, στις πεποιθήσεις ρόλου – αρμοδιοτήτων και στην αυτεπάρκεια των γονέων, ε) από τα κοινωνικο-δημογραφικά χαρακτηριστικά γονέων και παιδιών, μόνο η ηλικία των μαθητών τυπικής ανάπτυξης λειτουργεί ως μεταβλητή ρύθμισης (moderator) ανάμεσα στις προσκλήσεις παιδιού και τη ΓΕ στο σπίτι, στ) στα εναλλακτικά θεωρητικά μοντέλα που ελέγχθηκαν βρέθηκε μία στατιστικά σημαντική μικρή αμοιβαία σχέση ανάμεσα στην προβλεπτική ικανότητα της ΓΕ στο σπίτι και του Ψυχολογικού Μηχανισμού Μίμηση Προτύπου – Διδασκαλία μόνο για την περίπτωση των γονέων παιδιών με ΕΜΔ. Τα αποτελέσματα συζητούνται σε σχέση με τα αντίστοιχα άλλων διεθνών ερευνών, αναγνωρίζονται οι περιορισμοί της παρούσας έρευνας, κατατίθενται προτάσεις που θα μπορούσαν να αξιοποιηθούν μελλοντικά από ερευνητές που ενδιαφέρονται για τη μελέτη της ΓΕ, καθώς και προτάσεις για θεωρητικές και πρακτικές εφαρμογές σε εθνικό και διεθνές επίπεδο.
