The Pleiades apex and its kinematical structure

Abstract: A study of cluster characteristics and internal kinematical structure of the middle-aged Pleiades open star cluster is presented. The individual star apexes and various cluster kinematical parameters including the velocity ellipsoid parameters are determined using both Hipparcos and Gaia data. Modern astrometric parameters were taken from the Gaia Data Release 1 (DR1) in combination with the Radial Velocity Experiment Fifth Data Release (DR5). The necessary set of parameters including parallaxes, proper motion… Show more

“…Thus, mass segregation in SAI 44 is possibly caused by dynamical relaxation. We studied kinematics for the clusters using computational algorithm as described by Elsanhoury et al (2018). The line of sight velocities, V r , are given by Zhong et al (2020) as 2.20±5.73 and -33.28±35.30 km s −1 for SAI 44 and SAI 45, respectively.…”

“…A formal description of the method, diagramming technique, and formulas to determine the error ellipses can be found in Chupina et al (2001Chupina et al ( , 2006. This method has been used previously by some of us (Vereshchagin et al 2014, Elsanhoury et al 2018, Elsanhoury 2020a, 2020b, Postnikova et al 2020. The equatorial coordinates of the convergent point have the following forms:…”

“…The VEPs for the most probable cluster members are computed using a computational algorithm (see Elsanhoury 2015;Elsanhoury et al 2018;Postnikova et al 2020). We cross-matched cluster members with the catalog given by Soubiran et al (2018).…”

In stellar apex method, (A, D) of individual stars give the positions of those stars as a function of space velocity vectors (V x , V y , V z ).…”
