Due to the political boundaries between the Central European countries, on one hand, and the thick Tertiary cover in the Pannonian Basin, on the other, the eastward continuation of the Alpine and Dinaridic units has been ambiguous and poorly documented. Based on comparative analyses, the aim of the present paper is to define the pre-Tertiary structural units in the junction area of the Alpine, Dinaridic, and Pannonian regions, in the SW part of the Pannonian Basin, and to draw conclusions on the continuation of the Alpine and Dinaridic units. According to diagnostic characteristics of the Periadriatic Lineament system, the Balaton Lineament system may be considered as its direct eastern continuation.
