The Placement of the 188 keV Transition in 70Ga

Abstract: A careful study of the y-rays following the 70Zn(p, ny)1°Ga reaction has shown no evidence for a first excited state at 188 keY in 70Ga. However, a 188 keY y-ray transition was found to de-excite the 879 keY level in 7 0 Ga, whose half-life was measured to be 24±3 ns.

“…An estimate of the magnitude of the direct reaction cross section for the 62Ni(p, n) 62 Cu* (J" = 3+, Ex = 426 keV) reaction at Ep = 5·5 MeV compared with the Hauser-Feshb ach cross section has been given by Carlson et al (1972). The result indicates that the direct reaction component is less than 0·1 times the Hauser-Feshb ach one, and therefore that al is less than 0·05.…”

“…The isomerism of the J' = 4-state at 879 keV was uncovered by the same group, i.e. L. E. Carlson et al [9] who also measured lifetimes by DSAM [10], and the time perturbed angular distribution (TPAD) of the 188 keV y-ray was studied by D. A. Hutcheon et al [11].…”

“…We did not extract the 691 keV y-ray angular distribution because of the presence of the neutron peak in Ge detector but refs. [8,9] give J' = 2-with a component of the ((nlfs/2) (V'99/2))2-configuration for the 691 keV level [16]. [8,9].…”
