The pK0Σ+ final state in proton-proton collisions

Abstract: Abstract. This paper reports results from a study of the reaction pp → pK 0 Σ + at beam momenta of p beam = 2950, 3059, and 3200 MeV/c (excess energies of ǫ = 126, 161, and 206 MeV). Total cross sections were determined for all energies; a set of differential cross sections (Dalitz plots; invariant mass spectra of all two-body subsystems; angular distributions of all final state particles; distributions in helicity and Jackson frames) are presented for ǫ = 161 MeV. The total cross sections are proportional to … Show more

“…2, 3 and 6. phase-space. A similar observation was made in the study of the 3-body reactions p + p → p + K + + Λ/Σ 0 at p beam = 3059 MeV/c by the COSY-TOF collaboration, where an opposite behavior of the angular distributions was found depending on the hyperon content [7]. This points to different production mechanisms involving intermediate resonances to create either a ΛK-pair or a Σ 0 K-pair.…”

“…Hence, two measured angular distributions have been included and a method has been developed to determine the strength of the anisotropy for the two ∆ ++ reactions. In the simulation the Σ + + p + K 0 final states have been weighted such that the angular distribution of the K 0 's reproduces the one reported in [7] which has been extracted for p beam = 3059 MeV/c. The angular distribution for the channel p + p → Σ(1385) + + n + K + has been extracted from [1] and employed to weight the reaction p + p → Σ(1385) + + p + K 0 .…”

“…In order to fit our inclusive spectra and, at the same time be consistent with reported measurements at other energies, the cross section of this channel and the channel p + p → ++ (1232) + 0 + K 0 should be scaled by factors of 0.42 and 0.72, respectively. Similarly, the parametrizations given by the resonance model overestimate the data for the three-body channel p + p → + + p + K 0 in the region √ s = 2.57-2.83 GeV [36] by a factor of ≈1.5. The cross section of this channel has been scaled down accordingly.…”
