The PICARD Scientific Mission: status of the program

Abstract: PICARD is an investigation dedicated to the simultaneous measurement of the absolute total and spectral solar irradiance, the diameter and solar shape, and to the Sun's interior probing by the helioseismology method. The spacecraft was successfully launched into a Sun-synchronous dawn-dusk orbit on 15 June 2010 by a DNEPR-1 launcher for a life expectancy of 2 years; its operational mission ended in March, 2014.The payload consists of the SODISM imager (SOlar Diameter Imager and Surface Mapper) and of two radio… Show more

“…The first one is a "tank crackle type" window w a that is generated so that all gaps are of equal duration (0.5 second) and their positions are randomly distributed on the sample (uniform distribution with 260 gaps per orbit). The second one is a "telemetry losses type" window w b where the gaps durations are drawn from a distribution similar to the telemetry thread of the PICARD mission [27], with a standard duration of one minute. Their positions are distributed in the same way as for the first window.…”
