I n h a l t s u b e r s i c h tIn einer Neon-Niederdruckentladung im Puppschen tfbergangsbereich wurden sowohl stationiire laufende Schichten als auch unter den gleichen Entladungsbedingungen Schichtungswellen angeregt. Die direkt gemessenen Kenndaten der Schichtungswellen stimmen gut mit den Werten iiberein, die sich mit Hilfe der Dispersionstheorie aus dem Frequenzgang von Schichtweite und Amplifikation stationarer laufender Schichten enechnen lassen. Demnach kann die der Dispersionstheorie zugrunde liegende Auffassung der Schichtungswelle als eines Wellenpaketes laufender Schichten auch als experimentell gut begriindet angesehen werden. 1, D e r t h e o r e t i s c h e Z u s a m m e n h a n g Werden die sogenannten Schichtungswellen [l] als Pakete laufender Schichten nichtverscbwindenden Instabilitatsinkrements aufgefaBt, so lassen sich die Kenndaten der Schichtungswelle vollstandig aus dem Dispersions-und Amplifikationsverhalten stationair angeregter laufender Schichten berechnen [2]. Zweck der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, diese ,,Dispersionstheorie der Schichtungswellen" an einer Neon-Entladung im Puppschen ubergangsbereich [3], wo die Verhaltnisse besonders ubersichtlich sind, experimentell zu uberpriifen2). Wird die positiv orientierte x-Ache in die Richtung des elektrischen Langsfeldes (in Richtung von der Anode zur Kathode) gelegt, so lassen sich die stationiiren laufenden Schichten durch Ausdrucke der Form e--dzei(kx-ot) mit k > 0 und w > 0 beschreiben. Fur die Abhangigkeit des AmplSkationsinkrements d von der Wellenzahl k findet man fur derartige Entladungen im PuPPschen ubergangsbereich bei Schichtungen klejner Amplitude d(k) = -V ( k 2 -k : ) ' + do, (1) l) Physikalisches Institut der Tschechoslowakischen Akademie der Wissenschaften, Prag. a ) llhnliche Untersuchungen fur den ubergangsbereich in Neon bei kleinen Stromstlirken wurden kiinlich von A.
