The perspective of national ERP vendors in achieving ERP project success in government organisations: a case of Saudi Arabia

Abstract: Government organizations in the Gulf Cooperation Council region are governed by strict rules and regulations. In such a context, most of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) projects are managed by the national ERP vendors. The aim of this paper is to explore Key Influencing Factors (KIFs) from the perspective of national ERP vendors throughout pre-implementation and during implementation of ERP projects. This research specifically focuses on the ERP implementations in government organizations in the Gulf Cooper… Show more

“…Those systems connect people, processes, data and things in an intelligent and strategic manner that allows organizations to create value from data streams generated through ERP systems (Grover et al, 2018 ; Lehrer et al, 2018 ). ERP systems integrate various value chain activities, manage inventory, enhance enterprise visibility, provide operational excellence, improve customer relationship management and increase real-time information access, while reducing operational errors (Alkraiji et al, 2020 ; Ellingsen, 2018 ).…”

“…This is, to the best of our knowledge, the first research to provide a rating of CSFs from the perspective of its users in Saudi Arabia. Similar to other developing countries, most food industries in Saudi Arabia rely extensively on outsourcing to administer the implementation phase of their IT investments, especially key business initiatives such as those involving ERP systems [70]. Finally, this study provides a deeper understanding of CSFs from the users' perspective for the success of ERP systems in post-implementation phase.…”

“…This study adds to the information systems success in general and the success of ERPs in Saudi Arabian food industries because only a few studies have assessed user support and associated characteristics to evaluate the CSFs of ERPs or the performance efficacy in business industries. The user perspective has been widely ignored in ERP postimplementation [70]. However, due to the complexity of ERP systems in food enterprises, users are especially critical, especially since only a handful of studies have investigated this matter.…”

“…Also, people-related factors can contribute to the success of the projects, which are the software development team's skills or the lack of support from top management. Top management is ranked as the most important critical success factor in project success at large (Alkraiji et al, 2022). In this article, https://doi.org/10.18489/sacj.v34i1.820 the factors that influence the outcome of software development projects are investigated.…”
