The Permian-Triassic Transition in the Central Coastal Plain of Israel (North Arabian Plate Margin), David 1 Borehole

Abstract: A succession that includes the Permian-Triassic transition was penetrated in the David 1 Borehole (Israel), located on the Levant margin sector of the northwestern Gondwanan plate. This is a fully marine section with a complex depositional interplay of distal siliciclastic and ramp carbonate sediment. Foraminifera distribution, sedimentary microfacies, d 13 C excursions and e-log (gamma-ray; resistivity) data were analyzed. The local P-T boundary is placed at the first appearance of Triassic taxa, but there is… Show more

“…The same problem has also occurred in the description of material from Israel. Korngreen et al (2013) mentioned the presence of P. kalhori in strata of later Early Triassic age, but these forms were not illustrated in their study. Postcladella also has been partly misidentified in Rossignol et al (2018) from northern Vietnam.…”

“…The specimen illustrated from Hydra (Greece) by Rettori et al (1994) is probably an Endoteba section. Meandrospira cheni also has been reported from the Spathian of Israel (Korngreen et al, 2013) and the northern Arab Emirates (Maurer et al, 2008).…”
