The performance of the Congruence Among Distance Matrices (CADM) test in phylogenetic analysis

Abstract: BackgroundCADM is a statistical test used to estimate the level of Congruence Among Distance Matrices. It has been shown in previous studies to have a correct rate of type I error and good power when applied to dissimilarity matrices and to ultrametric distance matrices. Contrary to most other tests of incongruence used in phylogenetic analysis, the null hypothesis of the CADM test assumes complete incongruence of the phylogenetic trees instead of congruence. In this study, we performed computer simulations to… Show more

“…Calculating patristic distances from the phylogenies is an idea similar to that presented by Campbell, Legendre, and Lapointe (2011) who used distance matrices to test cospeciation in phylogenetic analysis. More importantly, this paper makes it possible to analyse associations from matrices of different sizes.…”

“…To determine whether the observed topological differences could have occurred by chance, our comparison approach can be combined with a statistical test, such as the SH test applied here or an alternative test, e.g. [44,45]. …”

“…A Congruence Among Distance Matrices (CADM) test was performed to estimate the congruence in the data partitions using R (Campbell et al, 2011;R Core development team, 2011). There was no indication of incongruence (p < 0.001, nperm = 999) for both the global and a posteriori tests.…”
