“…The same distinction applies when comparing the 12 Nayband palynofloras with the P. crenulatus Association Zone ofBomfleur et al (2014). Of a zonation scheme developed for Upper Triassic-Lower Jurassic of the Clarence-Moreton Basin, southeastern Queensland, Australia(de Jersey 1976;McKellar, 1981;de Jersey & McKellar, 2013), Assemblage A (partially Rhaetian) seems to be comparable with the Nayband assemblages in terms of abundance of Alisporites spp. and paucity of Densoisporites psilatus and Classopollis meyerianus.…”

“…The Nayband palynofloras simply have Striatella seebergensis in common with the Carnian-early Norian Craterisporites rotundus "Oppel" Zone of eastern Australia(Helby et al, 1987). The palynofloras examined are essentially distinct from the Australian Polycingulatisporites crenulatus Zone of Rhaetian-middle Sinemurian(de Jersey, 1975) and of middle Norian-Rhaetian age(de Jersey & McKellar, 2013) as well as the NorianHettangian P. crenulatus "Oppel" Zone(Helby et al, 1987) in lack of the eponymous index species. The same distinction applies when comparing the 12 Nayband palynofloras with the P. crenulatus Association Zone ofBomfleur et al (2014).…”

“…In New Zealand identification of the TJB is based on marine invertebrates, and is probably located near the FO of the bivalve Otapiria marshalli , while the first psiloceratid ammonites correlated with the Pacificum Horizon appear higher up in the Aratauran succession (Stevens, 2012). Late Triassic to Early Jurassic palynofloras from New Zealand have been described by De Jersey & Raine (1990) and Zhang & Grant-Mackie (2001), and were recently reviewed in De Jersey & McKellar (2013) and Bomfleur et al (2014). As an example, the palynofloral succession at Kawhia coast encompasses the Ngutunui, Arataura, Rewarewa and Arawhero formations and includes palynofloras assigned to assemblages II to IV by Zhang & Grant-Mackie (2001), and these are reviewed briefly below (Fig.…”

Figure 9. Selected palynological changes across the TJB succession at SW Kawhia, New Zealand (after Zhang & Grant-Mackie, 2001) in comparison with that from Queensland, Australia (after De Jersey, 1971; De Jersey & McKellar, 2013). Grey-shaded area marks the Jurassic.
