The purpose of the study was to investigate the ameliorative effect of dietary rocket salad and apple cider vinegar on the oxidative stress (OS) status of broilers. Specifically, 720 Ross 308 chicks were divided into six groups: negative and positive controls (NC and PC with and without additives, Vi1 and V12 experimental groups fed with diets mixed with 5 and 10 mL of vinegar/kg, and Ro1 and Ro2 groups fed with diets mixed with 2 and 3 g of rocket salad/kg, respectively). The experimental groups Vi1 and Vi2 were fed with feed mixture moisturized with 5 and 10 mL of vinegar/kg, and Ro1 and Ro2 were fed with 2 and 3 g of rocket salad/kg, respectively. The birds’ productivity, oxidative serum parameters, and morphometric indices of the gastrointestinal tract were registered at 6 weeks of rearing. The vinegar or rocket salad additive had powerful potentials to significantly suppress (p ≤ 0.05) OS through improving the birds’ survivability, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, and carcass yield. The highest villus height and villus height/crypt depth ratio of the duodenum were achieved by Vi2, Ro1-2, and NC (p ≤ 0.05). The villus surface area and muscular layer thickness were smallest in the PC, while they did not differ significantly in other groups (p > 0.05). Similar relationships were found in serum superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, hydroperoxide, and malondialdehyde; however, higher doses of both additives were more effective. It seems that liquid vinegar and rocket salad could have beneficial influences on the antioxidant status of birds.

A 12‐week feeding experiment was performed to examine the impacts of partial or complete substitution of soybean meal (SM) with leaf protein concentrate from carrot and sugar beet (CLPC and SLPC) on growth, blood constituents and body composition in Oreochromis niloticus. Five isocaloric (gross energy, 4300 kcal/kg) and isonitrogenous (crude protein, 320 g/kg) diets were formulated. The basal diet was formulated to contain SM at 350 g/kg diet. SM was replaced by 50% and 100% of SLPC and CLPC (SLPC‐50, CLPC‐50, SLPC‐100 and CLPC‐100 respectively). The results revealed that there were no significant changes in the growth indices between fish fed on basal diet and SLPC‐50 and CLPC‐100 diets. The condition factor was significantly increased in all dietary SLPC and CLPC substitution levels. Feed intake, feed conversion ratio and survival rate were not altered by various dietary SLPC and CLPC levels. The inclusion levels of SLPC and CLPC in fish feed did not significantly affect most blood biochemical and haematological parameters. Except for the SLPC‐50 group, all substituted groups displayed a significant depletion in the crude lipid content compared with the non‐substituted group. Fish fed on CLPC‐100 diet recorded the lowest feeding cost and best profit margin compared with other experimental groups. In summary, the findings demonstrated that SLPC and CLPC could replace 50% and 100% of SM, respectively in O. niloticus feeds without any negative effects on growth and blood constituents. Besides, the total replacement of SM with CLPC was more efficient in producing low cost and healthy aquafeed.

The leaf fish Monocirrhus polyacanthus is an Amazon ornamental fish with a peculiar characteristic of mimicry of dead leaf form. Its mouth protrusion, slow-moving and transparent fins facilitate the capture of preys. Those are appreciated characteristics in the ornamental market, but its commercialization is based mainly on capture of wild fish (Catarino & Zuanon, 2010). Therefore, protocols for the breeding of this species in captivity are important to minimize the impact over the wild population as well as to provide a health fish to the world market. The larviculture of many ornamental fish species is an obstacle for their commercial production. Mortalities higher than 80% were reported in the early stages of life of M. polyacanthus kept in captivity (Ramos, Abe, & Fujimoto, 2016). Leaf fish larviculture also shows high mortality rate during transition to industrial feed due to cannibalism (Luz, Salaro, Souto, Okano, & Lima, 2002) and stressful rearing practices (Pederzoli & Mola, 2016). These stressors cause immunosuppression and consequently promote proliferation of pathogens causing disease outbreaks and economic lost (Behringer, Wood, Krkošek, & Bushek, 2020). These
