Abstract:Initial efforts to characterize the resistance-loading relationship for hydrogen and its isotopes in palladium lead to a much more intensive examination of this property following the 1989 announcement by Fleischmann and Pons of putative “cold fusion”. Subsequent work lead to an understanding of the loading requirement for the Fleischmann Pons heat effect (FPHE) enabling rationalization of earlier failed attempts to observe this effect.
