“…In tropical and subtropical waters, P. kamo harai utilizes food resources of the epipelagic zone within the temperature range of 12.4-27.0°C [4] and the upper mesopelagic layer (up to 7-8°C) at a depth of 500 m [1]. During its feeding season at temperate latitudes, the crocodile shark, the same as the electric ray Torpedo californica preys on pelagic fish of the sub tropical and low boreal complex [2], apparently has to use only the surface layers of the epipelagic zone (50-70 m) down to the layer of residual winter cold, which is warmed only to 3-4°C in summer.…”
