The Oxidation of 2-Propanol by Ruthenium Tetroxide

Abstract: The kinetics of the oxidation of 2-propanol by ruthenium tetroxide in aqueous perchloric acid solutions have been investigated. The results indicate that the two mechanisms pertain; at moderate acidities (1-6.5 M HCIO,) the rate determining step involves hydride abstraction while at very high acid concentrations the rate determining step becomes carbonium ion formation.Les cinktiques de I'oxydation du propanol-2 par le tktroxyde de ruthenium dans des solutions aqueuses d'acide perchlorique ont etC Btudites. “…The magnitude of the antiferromagnetic interaction is surprisingly insensitive to the natures of the non-bridging ligands, Fe(III) coordination numbers, and Fe-O-Fe bridging angles. 3 The Fe2(OR)24+ binuclear systems (R = H, alkyl) are far more weakly coupled magnetically (-/ =…”

“…One factual error in the paper by Burke and Healy (1 1) which we have noted is found on page 1096 where they claim that Lee and van den Engh (24) have reported an isotope effect, k H / k o , of 4.6 for the oxidation of 2-propanol by perruthenate. No such report exists.…”
