The outcome of the HCC patients underwent ALPPS

Abstract: The complete resection offers the best long-term survival for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma patients. ALPPS as a choice of resection, how is its outcome compared to one-stage resection, liver transplantation and TACE? This retrospective study included 20 ALPPS patients. To minimize the effect of confounding influences of measured covariates, PSM was performed. The overall survival (OS), morbidity, mortality and the increasing rate, KGR were analyzed. The OS in ALPPS group is 27.4 (±3.8 months) moths and th… Show more

“…Analysis of ALPPS literature showed that the median of preoperative RLV/SLV ratios of two studies were 36.0% and 36.8%, respectively [19,20], which were higher than that of OSH group (35.4%). However, the rates of severe complications were 30% and 28.6% in the ALPPS and OSH groups, respectively, with corresponding mortality rates of 10% and 14.3%.…”

“…This advantage could just be compensated for the long period of portal vein embolization [24]. However, it is currently controversial because of severe trauma, high operative morbidity and mortality of ALPPS [8,9,19,20]. Therefore, in practice, the patients should be selected to undergo ALPPS based on the indications of ALPPS.…”

“…Currently, the only method suitable for these patients is associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy (ALPPS), but the scope for application of this procedure is very limited. [58][59][60] Second, NAT increases safety during the perioperative period. Large tumors, especially those at specific locations, often compress or invade important intrahepatic structures, such as the portal vein or bile ducts.…”
