The Otho Toolkit – Synthesizing tailor-made scientific grid application wrapper services

Abstract: The long lifecycles of many scientific applications tend to surpass multiple generations of Grid technologies opening an increasing gap developers need to bridge. Therefore automatic adaptation and migration of existing software to newer environments remains a vital research field. Most existing state-of-the-art solutions are middleware services that execute programs based on user-provided program descriptions. They force clients to use a generic interface and often lack capabilities to adapt to specific progr… Show more

“…The Otho Toolkit realises the transformation of the SGA specifications into a platform-specific problem representation 2 In previous work [7] we examined a Model-driven Architecture [8]-based approach. However we discontinued the strict use of its formalisms and tools because of immature tool support and too strong emphasis on UML that we found inadequate for our purpose.…”

“…The Otho Toolkit 2 [7] is a research software atomatising the synthesis of X S from SGA specifications. Multiple target X S platforms and different means to execute the wrapped program (local execution, job submission) are available.…”

“…The Otho Toolkit [2], [3], [4] is a research software automatising the synthesis of X S based on SGA specifications in order to close the gap between batch-oriented scientific non-SOA programs and Web Service Grids. It realises the transformation of the SGA specifications into a platform-specific problem representation and generates all source code artifacts.…”
