The optical Tamm states at the interface between a photonic crystal and nanoporous silver

Abstract: The optical Tamm states (OTSs) localized at the edges of a photonic crystal bounded by a nanoporous silver (NPS) film are investigated. NPS involves spherical vacuum nanopores dispersed in the metal matrix and is characterized by the effective resonance permittivity. The transmission, reflection, and absorption spectra of the structures under study at the normal incidence of light are calculated. It is shown that each Tamm state has its own frequency range where the real part of effective permittivity is negat… Show more

“…The TPPs gave rise to the fundamentally new type of devices, which includes absorbers [7][8][9][10], switches [11], organic solar cells [12], thermal emitters [13,14], sensors [15,16] and spontaneous emission amplifiers [17]. In addition to metal, the resonant nanocomposite materials can be used as a material with negative dielectric permittivity for TPP excitation [18][19][20][21][22]. Moreover, by these materials TPPs can be formed when the real part of the permittivity is near-zero (ENZ) in visible wavelength range.…”

“…The result of interaction between the radiation field and surface plasmon excitation is a Tamm plasmon polariton (TPP) [2], which is observed in experiments as a narrow peak in the energy spectra of a sample [3][4][5]. As was shown in [6][7][8][9][10], the materials with the negative permittivity ( ε eff (ω) < 0) adjacent to a PhC can be both metallic films and nanocomposites with the resonant frequency dispersion.…”

“…1a. Optical modes arising from the periodicity disturbance at the PC surface are often referred as optical Tamm states [26][27][28]. A crucial property of a PC is that its surface mode is concentrated near the air interface [29][30][31][32], and this is extremely important to form high temperature gradient.…”
