“…This coincides with the presence of Ψ54 in certain tRNAs of animals, and its absence from the tRNAs of bacteria and yeast (Jühling et al 2009). Certain isoacceptors of mammalian tRNAs for Gln, Trp, Pro, Thr, and Arg and of chicken tRNAs for Pro and Trp contain Ψ, instead of T, at position 54 (Harada et al 1975(Harada et al , 1979(Harada et al , 1989Fournier et al 1978;Harada and Nishimura 1980;Yang et al 1983;Keith 1984;Kuchino et al 1987;Harada 1989;Jühling et al 2009).…”

“…where termination usually occurs. Examination of the nucleotide sequence in the anticodon loop of the normal bovine and rat liver Gln-tRNA (16,38) and of the amber suppressor tRNA (19) indicates that there is the possibility for interaction between two of the nucleotides of the mRNA with two of the nucleotides of the anticodon loop. In particular, the two bases immediately 3' to the amber codon in the message could potentially participate in hydrogen bonding with the two nucleotides 5' to the anticodon; Fig.…”

“…It is not clear whether any of these MuLV-related proviruses possess the capacity to replicate as a retrovirus. In a previous study (21), we found that a MuLV-related proviral DNA clone from BALB/c mice contained a distinctly different tRNA primer binding site that was not complementary to the 3'-terminal sequence of proline tRNA but showed a 17-of-18 match to that of a published glutamine tRNA structure (38). Here we present experimental evidence that this glutamine tRNA shows a perfect match to the primer binding site in three of the four other MuLV-related proviruses examined.…”
