Black patients had the greatest prevalence of anemia (16.5%) at delivery admission, twice that of White patients. Black-White disparities were high among all education groups. Anemia was more frequent among Black compared to White patients who were privately insured (22% vs. 7.8%, aRR 2.60), publicly insured (13.5% vs. 7.2%, aRR 1.82), and more prevalent for Black patients in all counties. Black-White disparities were present across all levels of SDH (Table 1). CONCLUSION: Anemia was more common among Black compared to White patients by age, levels of education, most insurance types, and metropolitan category. The most significant disparities in anemia were seen in educated and privately insured Black pregnant patients. Future studies are needed to explore barriers to treatment of anemia among Black patients and the role of structural racism in Black-White anemia disparities.
