“…Most of the studies with nitric acid dealt with the extraction of the actinides and of fission products. The tetravalent actinides are extracted as (R3NH)2M-(N03)6 where M is Th, U, Np and Pu (29,46,55,163,192,193,215,354,375,449), whereas hexavalent uranium is extracted as (R3NH)U02(N03)3 (29,163,192,193,215,361,421,428) as probably also are neptunium and plutonium (192,441). The spectra of the tetra-and hexavalent actinides in the organic phase have been published (192) and found to be similar to the solid compounds obtained with quaternary ammonium salts.…”

“…For the computation of K ex 0 , the value of K Nit was taken as 40.5 and 105 for Np(IV) and Pu(IV), respectively, at 3 M HNO 3 . [29][30][31] The value of 2.78 was used for the [NO 3 À ], calculated using a K a value of 23 for the dissociation of HNO 3 . 28 The values of the thermodynamic parameters DG, DH O and TDS were calculated as mentioned above.…”

“…As extracting agents tertiary amine nitrates of the type R'R"R"'NH · N0 3 (R', R", R'" represent aliphatic hydrocarbon chains with C 6 -C 24 ) and quaternary ammonium nitrates, Q's, of a rather similar structure like triauryl-methyl-ammonium nitrate, TLMA, or hexadecyl-dimethyl-benzyl-ammonium nitrate, HDDMBA, can be used [5]. In 3-4 M nitric acid the main Pu(IV) species is PU(N0 3 ) 3 + [6-9], although BBOTHEBS et al stated that in I-i M aqueous nitric acid, Pu(IV) is present as undissociated Pu(N0 3 ) 4 [10]. At higher nitrate concentrations also anionic plutonium nitrate complexes are formed.…”
