“…In leading studies, scholars such as Alison Bashford, Joyce Chaplin, Yoav Di-Capua, Marwa Elshakry, Omnia El Shakry, and Kris Manjapra have traced the reception of "European" thought as it was remade thanks to imperial circuitry and global interconnections. 24 An even wider group are forging a golden age of what one might call anti-and post-European intellectual history, tracing the attempts made within existing networks and across the "Global South" to respond to northern currents of thought by deploying local intellectual resources or synthesizing new intellectual combinations. Often these took place between metropole and colony, but they were just as frequent in colonial and postcolonial settings whose intellectuals were to make common cause in imagining a non-imperial modernity-one that did not merely accept the vision presented to them by European thinkers.…”
