The new curriculum guidelines under the view of faculties of the Physical Education Department of UNIR

Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the professional and academic profile of the faculties of the degree course in Physical Education at the Federal University of Rondônia and related it to their perceptions about the new National Curricular Guidelines - DCNs (2018) for the professional training in Physical Education. Ten of the 12 faculties from the effective staff participated in the study, who answered an online questionnaire prepared by the researchers, containing eight closed and 12 open questions, divided into 3 parts: 1) professional profile; 2) academic profile; and 3) facultie´s perception regarding the new DCNs. The results showed that there is heterogeneity regarding the understanding and acceptance of the differences between the two courses - bachelor and licentiate. In general terms, three characteristic groups emerged from the analysis of the answers to the questionnaire: the first, composed of a group of faculties who understand the difference between the courses, accept them and approve the deliberations of the new DCNs; the second, formed by faculties who have difficulties in distinguishing and accepting the training divided into two courses and therefore do not approve the deliberations of the new DCNs; the third, made up of faculties who show no interest in the subject and thus are unaware of the deliberations of the new DCNs. The results allow us to conclude that a generalist professional formation in the undergraduate course and in fields of knowledge other than Physical Education in the graduate course contributed to the lack of interest and disapproval in relation to the new DCNs. The perspectives to answer to the new delibetations are not opmistic.
