“…The high correlation between spectral changes in mixed aqueous solvents and in hydrophobic binding sites suggests that the dyes experience similar changes in environment in both cases. This correlation has led some investigators to interpret the "polarity" of protein binding sites in terms of empirical solvent polarity parameters (9,14,20).
