The Multidimensional Random Coefficients Multinomial Logit Model

Abstract: A multidimensional Rasch-type item response model, the multidimensional random coefficients multinomial logit model, is presented as an extension to the Adams & Wilson (1996) random coefficients multinomial logit model. The model is developed in a form that permits generalization to the multidimensional case of a wide class of Rasch models, including the simple logistic model, Masters' partial credit model, Wilson's ordered partition model, and Fischer's linear logistic model. Moreover, the model includes … Show more

“…More importantly, the definitions allow the specification of a range of multidimensional models by imposing linear constraints on the item parameters, such as multidimensional forms of the simple logistic model, the rating scale model, the partial credit model (to be used in this study), and the linear partial credit model. For details on how to manipulate a ij and b ij to form the above models and other customized models, the reader is referred to Adams et al [14] and Adams and Wilson [20].…”

“…When (6) in fact holds, then estimation can be done using simple multivariate extensions of the 2PL model. Such extensions have been considered for Rasch models (Andersen, 1985;Embretson, 1991;Adams et al, 1997).…”

“…In some situations, subjects are assessed at multiple occasions, perhaps with the same set or a related set of items. Several articles have described applications and developments of IRT modeling to such longitudinal situations in psychology [Adams et al, 1997a, Anderson, 1985, Embretson, 1991, 2000, Fischer and Pononcy, 1994.…”
