“…smithii is the single temperate species from a large neotropical genus (16,17) and displays a geographical distribution that closely follows that of its host plant, Sarracenia purpurea, from the Gulf of Mexico north to Canada and from Labrador west to Alberta (10,18). W. smithii separates into two geographic groups, a southern group at low elevations in the southeastern coastal plain from Mississippi to North Carolina and a northern group including populations in the southern Appalachian Mountains and populations extending from Maryland northward to Labrador and westward to northern Alberta.…”

“…Around 3,500 species of Culicidae have been described around the world, some of which are of importance in public health because they are vectors of human and animal pathogens (Stone et al 1959, Belkin et al 1966, Harbach 2013. Various culicid species can be found in the habitats in these urban parks, where their populations are protected and can be maintained (Medeiros-Sousa et al 2013).…”

“…No additional information was provided until Duret (1954) again listed these species as new and provided detailed descriptions and information on types and type locality for each. Stone, Knight and Starcke (1959) listed the date of publication for these species as 1953, but incorrectly cited page numbers from both the 1953 and 1954 papers (the second paper by Duret, while dated 1953, was not published until 1954). Knight and Stone (1977) 4.…”

“…Sirivanakarn (1983) recognized 150 species, but only provided illustrations for males of 46 species and females of 13 species. He provided keys for recognizing infrasubgeneric groups of species based on morphological characters observed in adults, male genitalia, some species, certain country records were first recorded in A synoptic catalog of the mosquitoes of the world by Stone, Knight and Starcke (1959). Although a catalog seems to be an unlikely place to find new distribution records, these are valid records based on specimens which Alan Stone personally examined and identified while serving as curator of the U.S. National Mosquito Collection (Stone et al 1959: 4).…”
