TurkeyThis study investigated the effectiveness of conceptual change texts in remediating high school students' alternative conceptions concerning chemical equilibrium. A quasi-experimental design was used in this study. The subjects for this study consisted of a total 78 tenth-grade students, 38 of them in the experimental group and 40 of them in the control group. A questionnaire, the Alternative Conceptions about Chemical Equilibrium Test (ACCET), was developed and administered to students as a pretest and posttest. While the experimental group received a conceptual change text instruction, the control group received a traditional style instruction. The results of the study indicated that the students in the experimental group showed significantly greater levels of achievement than the students in the control group. Moreover, in both groups the percentages of students' alternative conceptions decreased in the however the experimental group did better than the control group.

A AB BS ST TR RA AC CT TIndonesian people as human resources should be prepared to globalization era in the 21 st century, therefore they have to develop their higher order thinking skill rapidly, to improve their quality. Science education has an important role to develop young generation thinking skill, that makes science teachers training needs to be improved. Three science teaching models have been developed to increase science teacher candidates high order thinking skill, consist of Chemical Bond Model of Teaching (MPIK), Thermodynamics Model of Teaching (MPTD) and Anatomy and Physiology of Human Body Model of Teaching (MPAF). Each of the models consists of concept analysis and concept map, learning activities, teaching materials, test item. These studies show the dependency of the higher order thinking aspects and the characteristics of the subject matter in the models, including kind of concepts, width and depth of the subject matter areas. The models have been implemented and evaluated in three institutes of teacher training in Java. The findings show that the models had successfully increased the science teacher candidates way of thinking, on the whole stages of critical thinking skills, that have raised their propositional and combinatorial thinking. The impact shows that science models of learning (MPIPA) are available as new trend of science teacher training for the globalization era. ResumenEl propósito de este trabajo fue evaluar la implemetación del laboratorio virtual de química general en el aprendizaje sobre cantidades atómico-moleculares, identificando el concepto de mol. Se usó un diseño experimental con preprueba-postprueba. Se trabajó con todos los alumnos ingresantes 2014, dividiéndolos en un grupo control (GC) y otro grupo experimental (GE). El 90% de los alumnos del GE contestó correctamente el ítem destinado al tema cantidades atómico-moleculares en el primer examen parcial de la materia, mientras que en el GC sólo lo hicieron el 45%. Los alumnos del GE pudieron desarrollar habilidades cognoscitivas durante la interacción con el simulador, utilizándolo como estrategia de aprendizaje y obtuvieron un valor para el factor de Hake de 0.89 reportado en la literatura como un valor satisfactorio con una ganancia de aprendizaje alta. Además, los estudiantes mostraron una actitud positiva hacia los conceptos tratados y la forma de trabajarlos en clase. The type of design was experimental with pretest and post-test. The study was done by dividing all the freshmen 2014 into two groups: a control group (CG) and an experimental group (EG). Ninety percent of the students in the EG answered correctly the item atomic-molecular quantities in the first partial examination. Of the ones in the CG only 45% did. Students from the EG developed cognitive skills during interaction with the simulator, using it as a learning strategy and obtained a value of 0.89 for the Hake factor, a satisfactory value with a high gain of learning. Also, the students showed a positive attitude towards the concepts discussed and how to work with them in class.
