The MIDAS Cloud Platform for Testing SOA Applications

Abstract: International audienceWhile Service Oriented Architectures (SOAs) are for many parts deployed online, and today often in a cloud, the testing of the systems still happens mostly locally. In this paper, we want to present the MIDAS Testing as a Service (TaaS), a cloud platform for the testing of SOAs. We focus on the testing of whole SOA orchestrations, a complex task due to the number of potential service interactions and the increasing complexity with each service that joins an orchestration. Since traditiona… Show more

“…Indeed, each service receives a MIDAS DSL model as input and generates test cases for the input model, based on its own test scenario. There are also other services for test case prioritization, scheduling, transformation to the TTCN-3 test code, execution, and arbitration [4,[9][10][11][12]14].…”

“…The availability of many and relatively cheap resources in the cloud makes performance testing easier, thus many frameworks have been developed addressing the objective of performance testing [35], [116], [75], [103], [112], [153], [58], [102]. However performance evaluation requires a rigorous planning and the setting of specific configurations to maximize test effectiveness.…”

“…Different model based testing frameworks have been developed [12], [98], [82], [81], such as AUTOMATIC that derives many different QoS configurations to be tested in the cloud [12], or ATCloud that generates test cases based on API models [154], or the proposal of [82] that specifically addresses functional testing for composed services. MIDAS [58] is a model based scalable testing platform leveraging a Domain Specific Language (DSL), based on the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and the UML Testing Profile (UTP). EvoDroid [99] is another model based framework that analyzes the source code of an app, and automatically extracts both a behavioral model, and the APIs of externally referred apps.…”
