Background and Objective:The development of sustainable pollution control necessarily involves the microbial community of the polluted environment. The current investigation attempts to isolate a population of bacterial colonies, identification of microbes from domestic greywater and wet grinding and pickle industries' effluents. Materials and Methods: Samples of domestic greywater (GW) and effluents from the wet grinding industry (WGI) and pickle industry (PI) for the isolation and identification of bacterial and fungal colonies. Standard procedures were performed, including Gram staining and biochemical tests. Analysis of the ANOVA revealed significant variation (p#0.05) in the Colony Forming Unit (CFU) of wastewater samples. Results: Abundant microbial load of microbial community was found in the raw pickle industry effluent samples, followed by wet grinding industry effluent samples. Whereas, grey water was determined with a relatively low microbial population. However, fecal contamination indicator of Coliform bacteria was noticed in greywater alone. Yeast colonies were noticed in untreated wet grinding industry effluent. An organic acid-rich pickle effluent was detected with Citrobacter species. Conclusion: Microbial communities inventory in wastewater and food industry effluents revealed the biological quality of wastewater and further would provide the method to develop proper management principles and guidelines, for the improved water quality.

This review explores the innovative utilization of industrial effluents in biorefinery applications, addressing the environmental challenges posed by the complex mixture of pollutants in industrial wastewater. It emphasizes the transformation of these effluents into valuable resources, such as biofuels, biochemicals, and bioplastics, through advanced biotechnological processes including anaerobic digestion, fermentation, enzymatic conversion, and microbial biomass production. The study highlights the critical role of microbial biocatalysts in breaking down diverse pollutants and transforming waste into wealth, thereby contributing to sustainable industrial practices and a circular economy. Challenges such as variability in effluent composition, inhibitory substances, and the necessity for robust bioprocesses are discussed, along with suggestions for future research directions like effluent characterization, development of specialized microbial consortia, and effective monitoring and control strategies. Microflora play an important role in the fermentation of blueberry wine, influencing the flavor and nutrient formation. Commercial yeasts give blueberry wines an average flavor profile that does not highlight the specific aroma and origin of the blueberry. In the present study, ITS1-ITS2 region sequencing analysis was performed using Illumina MiSeq high-throughput technology to sequence fermented blueberry wine samples of three Vaccinium ashei varieties, Gardenblue, Powderblue, and Britewell, from the Majiang appellation in Guizhou province to analyze the trends of fungal communities and the diversity of compositional structures in different periods of blueberry wine fermentation. The study’s results revealed that 114 genera from seven phyla were detected in nine samples from different fermentation periods of blueberry wine. The main fungal phyla were Ascomycota, Basidiomycota, Kickxellomycota, Chytridiomycota, and Olpidiomycota. The main fungal genera were Hanseniaspora, Saccharomyces, unidentified, Aureobasidium, Penicillium, Mortierella, Colletotrichum, etc. Hanseniaspora was dominant in the pre-fermentation stage of blueberry wine, accounting for more than 82%; Saccharomyces was the dominant genera in the middle and late fermentation stages of blueberry wine, with Saccharomyces accounting for more than 72% in the middle of fermentation and 93% in the late fermentation stage. This study screened indigenous flora for the natural fermentation of blueberry wine in the Majiang production area of Guizhou, improved the flavor substances of the blueberry wine, highlighted the characteristics of the production area, and made the blueberry wine have the characteristic flavor of the production area.
