The Method to Determine the Turns Ratio Correction of the Inductive Current Transformer

Abstract: This paper presents the method for evaluation of the turns ratio correction of the inductive current transformer using the magnetization curves determined at the non-load state and in the load conditions. The presented method may be applied to determine even a fractional winding correction factor. The standard IEC 61869-2 provides the method to determine the turns ratio correction of the tested CT from the measured rms values of voltages on its primary and secondary winding in the non-load state. However, this… Show more

“…In these conditions, the highest current error values occurred for 120% I 1N and 25% S N . Moreover, the applied correction of turns of the secondary winding caused a shift of the current error value in a positive direction [26]. As the load on the secondary winding increased, the current error values moved toward a negative value.…”

“…In other cases, its primary winding must be fed by a rated current, which may be generated by a step-up current transformer with a wideband power amplifier [22][23][24]. The results and analysis in [25] are helpful to understand the course of the wideband metrological characteristics of a corrected inductive CT [26]. The proposed vectorial diagrams define the components conditioning the values of the current error and phase displacement of the harmonic of the specified distorted current.…”

“…Also, for the decreased load of the secondary winding, the high me performance of the ICT 1 is retained. The positive values of current error deter ICT 2 results from applied turns number correction, where the real turns ratio is to the rated current ratio [30]. The ICT 1 is not corrected.…”

“…There are two common methods for achieving decimal-turn windings [16]. One method is to wind multiple wires in parallel, but the turns of different wires may be one turn different, so that the number of equivalent secondary turns will be a decimal or a fraction.…”
