The Medial Frontal Cortex, Performance Monitoring, Cognitive Control, and Decision Making
Hans Kirschner,
Markus Ullsperger
Abstract:This chapter outlines the involvement of the posterior medial frontal cortex (pMFC) in performance monitoring, cognitive control, and decision making. We first describe the neuroanatomy of the pMFC. We then review the functional contributions of the pMFC to performance monitoring, resulting adaptations, and decision making. Based on the evidence reviewed in this chapter, we conclude that a broad array of performance monitoring and decision-making signals are represented in the pMFC. Specific properties of thes… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
