The relationship between various aspects of student self-concept and student participation in the extra-and cocurricular activity programs of several Pennsylvania high schools was explored. The study was a marked departure from previous studies because it combined psychological with personal variables in its examination of student participation. Known and hypothesized indicants of participation were explored. Results indicated that self-concept variables as well as personal variables were differential in the nature of their contributions to different activity classifications.
