The MCP‐1 −2518 (A to G) single nucleotide polymorphism is not associated with myocardial infarction in the Czech population

Abstract: Monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP)-1 is the key chemokine in the process of atheroslerotic vascular inflammation. Examining already reported association between coronary artery disease (CAD) and the SNP A/G in the MCP-1 gene (position -2518), 139 Czech patients with CAD manifested as myocardial infarction (MI) and 359 unrelated healthy control (C) subjects were genotyped by PCR-SSP. Genotype and allele frequencies were not different in MI and C groups (allele G: MI, 20.5%; C, 23.8%, OR = 0.8, P > 0.05). No… Show more

“…MCP-1 serum levels An association of SNP -2578AO G with MCP-1 serum levels was investigated by several studies (18,(20)(21)(22)(23). Although functionality of this SNP has been previously demonstrated, the results of the association studies remain contradictory (24).…”

“…Type 2 diabetes Several epidemiologic studies have been conducted to discover whether MCP-1 levels are associated with T2DM, although findings were inconsistent (17,18,(20)(21)(22). It was recently suggested that this inconsistency results from the confounding effect of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular conditions.…”

“…More scientific groups studied CRP gene polymorphisms and found that basal levels of CRP both in patients and healthy controls are genetically determined and under repeated examination in healthy subjects relatively stable. Thus understanding the genetic background of CRP that regulate basal but also by infection or any type of inflammation induced concentration of CRP might contribute to stratification of healthy subjects to different groups with higher or lower degree of cardiovascular disease development (Cermakova et al, 2005;Pearson at al. 2003;Szalai et al, 2002) …”
