In the Philippines, ex-convicts face severe hurdles during reintegration, including public stigma, restricted work opportunities, insufficient support, and discriminatory behaviors, all of which impede a smooth return to society. This qualitative narrative case study investigates the psychological, social, and economic aspects of ex-convicts’ lives after jail. The Life Course Perspective is used as the study’s theoretical framework, acknowledging the importance of personal, societal, and historical elements in individual development. Six successfully reintegrated participants, each with a minimum five-year prison sentence, constituted the basis for in-depth interviews conducted in a quiet and secure atmosphere using snowball sampling. The study sought to explore ex-convicts’ issues, coping methods, life realizations, and viable therapeutic programs. The findings highlight the numerous challenges, such as societal stigma, economic constraints, and disrupted social bonds. Coping methods, which include spiritual rehabilitation and emotional acceptance, emerge as critical components of the reintegration process. Life realizations become transforming forces, characterized by a dedication to positive change and social contributions, which is frequently motivated by familial support and a desire to protect loved ones. For effective reintegration, the study underlines the importance of public acceptance, tailored interventions, and support networks. It finds that addressing these issues, as well as encouraging familial stability, boosting community involvement, and engaging employers, are critical to reducing recidivism and facilitating long-term rehabilitation. Recommendations urge for coordinated efforts from families, communities, and businesses, emphasizing the importance of a complete strategy to assisting ex-convicts on their path to successful society reintegration.

Representation is imperative to help society comprehend what life is like after imprisonment. This qualitative study delves into the nuanced experiences of formerly incarcerated individuals, commonly referred to as ex-convicts, within the province of Davao del Sur. Through snowball sampling and in-depth interviews, we explored the challenges they faced, the consequences of these challenges, the coping mechanisms they employed, and the insights gained during their reintegration into society. Utilizing a phenomenological approach, the research uncovers three primary challenges faced by ex-convicts: (1) anticipated stigma and stigma management, the struggle to secure (2) emotional and material support, and (3) social readjustment and reintegration due to their preconceived detachment from society outside prison. Moreover, the findings indicate that former inmates experienced negative effects caused by their time in jail, leading to (1) emotional distress. However, the experience also served as a means for them to (2) restore their faith and become more (3) introspective in their thoughts and actions. Their coping mechanisms provided them hope and a positive mindset in overcoming the challenges they encountered, such as (1) social and spiritual, and (2) mindful acceptance of their current situation, which showed their resilience, faith, and as a repercussion of their violations. Furthermore, imprisonment became insightful learning to them to have a (1) stronghold between family ties and emotional support, as well as (2) renewed their faith in God. Consequently, government social reentry programs must be reinforced to help these individuals in many facets of their lives to promote resilient adjustments and prevent recidivism.

Religiosity is critical in improving a person's self-control ability and preventing a person from committing a crime. However, studies of the dimensions of religiosity that can play a role in private religious practice are still limited. This study aims to find the relationship between the dimensions of intellectual and ideology with private practice in religiosity. This study involved three hundred samples of prisoners with measurements of intellectual dimensions, ideology, and private practices using the Centrality of Religiosity Scale (CRS). The correlation test concluded that intellectual and ideology are significantly associated with private practice. The intellectual dimension shows a more potent effect size on private practice than the ideology dimension. This study recommends the need for intellectual and ideological religious guidance programs for inmates in correctional institutions as an effort to increase self-control and prevent the residivisme
