“…In Smith and Flanagan's (2000) study, detective managers reported that they were concerned about becoming de-skilled in investigations due an increased focus on managerial tasks. This possibility is also reflected by one of the few scholarly publications on the management of detectives, which discusses how to measure and monitor detective performance, but makes no mention of the role of managers in improving the performance of the detectives (Neyroud & Disley, 2007). If the detective role is becoming more complex, the absence of developmental support from managers may leave an even greater gap between the skill level required for effective practice and the opportunity to develop those skills.…”
