“…The spermatophore in caridean shrimps was well described in Heptacarpus pictus (Bauer, 1976), Macrobrachium rosenbergii, Macrobrachium nipponense, Macrobrachium formosense, Macrobrachium japonicum, Macrobrachium latidactylus, Palaemon paucidens (Chow, Ogasawara, & Taki, 1982;Chow, Taki, & Ogasawara, 1989), Macrobrachium australiense (Butcher & Fielder, 1994), and Hippolyte inermis (Cobos, Díaz, Raso, & Manjón-Cabeza, 2010). Based on those studies, the spermatophore in Caridea is a relatively simple structure that consists of a sperm mass surrounded by two secretions: the inner secretion is basophilic, with a spermatozoal protective function, while the outer secretion is eosinophilic, with an adhesive function that sticks the spermatophore to the sternum of the female (Bauer, 2004;Subramoniam, 1993).…”
