Abstract:The increasing competition and commercialization of higher education has led to the internationalization of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) around the world. While internationalization appears to be inevitable, differences are apparent in its definitions, depth, scope and mode. The main aim of this paper is to assess the internationalization efforts of Malaysian HEIs through a case study on the internationalization process of one private HEI. The case highlights various weaknesses of the internationalization effort in the institution. The symptoms and the causes of the problems in the institution corroborate similar findings in other studies involving the internationalization of HEIs. Suggestions and recommendations are presented to enable other organizations that wish to undertake similar internationalization efforts to learn from the case study institution's experience.Abstrak: Meningkatnya persaingan dan komersialisasi pendidikan tinggi telah menyebabkan Internasionalisasi Perguruan Tinggi (HEIs) di seluruh dunia. Sementara internasionalisasi tampaknya tak terelakkan, perbedaan yang jelas dalam definisi, kedalaman, ruang lingkup dan modus. Tujuan utama dari makalah ini adalah untuk menilai upaya internasionalisasi HEIs Malaysia melalui studi kasus pada proses internasionalisasi satu HEI pribadi. Kasus ini menyoroti berbagai kelemahan dari upaya internasionalisasi lembaga. Gejala-gejala dan penyebab dari masalah dalam lembaga menguatkan temuan serupa di studi lain yang melibatkan internasionalisasi HEIs. Saran dan rekomendasi disajikan untuk memungkinkan organisasi lain yang ingin melakukan upaya yang sama internasionalisasi untuk belajar dari pengalaman studi kasus lembaga itu.

Integration of 21st Century Learning Skills (4C Elements) in Interventions to Improve English Writing Skill Among 3K Class Students

21st Century Learning is a student-centered learning process that has been introduced in Malaysia since 2014. This study aims to integrate the 4C elements, which are collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking in the interventions to improve English writing skill among 3K class students. Also, the study was conducted to determine how peer guidance can help 3K class students, who were weak in writing, to improve their English writing skills. The action research was carried out based on Kurt Lewin's Model. The research instruments involved were pre-test, post-test, and semi-structured interview. A total of 32 students sat for both pre-test and post-test before and after the interventions. A semi-structured interview consisting of five questions was conducted after the student completed the post-test. Descriptive statistics involving mean and percentage scores were used to analyze pre-test and post-test findings, while the interview findings were summarized. The results showed that there was an improvement in their English writing skills, where the mean score for the pre-test was 19.34, while the mean score for post-test was 22.66. The findings indicate that weaker students agreed that guidance of students who possess better writing skills helped them improve their English writing skills. The results of the pre-test and post-test showed that the intervention conducted has successfully helped 3K class students to improve their English writing skills.

This paper examines different factors which affect the academic performance of students of the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Accounting and Finance (BAAF) at Kolej Poly-Tech Mara, Bangi. The study provides insights into the association between different entry qualifications and academic outcomes, complementing the evidence that advocates the implementation of academic merit for admission. This paper expands this evidence base by examining relationships between entry qualification, a pre-degree academic performance used for admission, and performance at the BAAF programme conducted in Malaysia. Regression results showed that the student's CGPA for entry, English proficiency (MUET) and entry qualification were significant factors for the academic performance in the BAAF programme at the 1% level. Comparing the academic performance of two different entry qualifications, the result of independent t-test shows that students who enter with Diploma from UiTM performed better than the students who graduated with a Diploma from Kolej Poly-Tech MARA. This study only focuses on BAAF students at Kolej Poly-Tech Mara, Bangi. Thus, the findings are specific to the conditions at this college and are not generalisable. A similar study could be done at other colleges and universities so that comparisons and generalisations could be derived. The results of this study have several implications for university administrators and policymakers. It justifies setting the requirement for entry. The results show that the same minimum point system of entry can be unfair to students from different entry qualifications. Furthermore, the minimum grade point required (min CGPA) for entry must consider the entire curriculum of the qualification used for entry.
