Abstract:We review the history, physics challenges and final success of the electron–positron 1.5 GeV collider ADONE, from its inception as Bruno Touschek’s brainchild to the beginning of elementary particle physics experiments. Many new problems were met along the road to the successful operation of ADONE, like the collective instability effects.
