“…The most extensive study was made by Hala andco-workers (1976, 1981a), who analysed 10,252 animals and fovnd four recombinants. These recombinations involved the haplotypes B4, B", and B7 and the recombinant haplotypes are named B4r1, BIZr', and B4*' (the fourth recombinant turned out to be identical to B4") (HBla et al 1981a).…”

“…In fact, however, little is known about MHC in non-mammalian vertebrates. Only birds (chickens (Hala 1977)) and toads (Xenopus laevis (Du Pasquier & Kobe1 1979)) have so far provided us with some information on MHC, and only in the chicken are there as yet any data available to prove the existence of both Class I and Class I1 structures. In comparison with mammals, the chicken displays a unique class of MHC structure represented by B-G (Hala 1977, Simonsen 1981.…”

“…Chickens [24] based on the internationally accepted nomenclature [25]. In all experimental groups both female and male animals were represented proportionally (and none of the parameters investigated during this study differed between female and male birds).…”

“…This band was found in the DNA of all female and male 0s chickens of the three sublines homozygous for the B', B13 or B'' MHC alleles, in a few individuals of the close-bred Cornell C-strain (CS, I l l 3 ) , the mother strain of the OS, and in none of the three highly inbred strains GB-1 (B13), CC (It4), and CB (Ill2) [4,51. The latter strain is unrelated to the OS, expresses an MHC type not associated with SAT, and behaves "normally" in most immunological characteristics, i. e. similar to outbred NWL chickens [24]. For these reasons we decided to investigate the parameters listed above in crosses of the CB strain with chickens of the well reproducing OS-Bi5Bi5 subline.…”

“…The chicken MHC, the B complex (Pazderka et al 1975, Hala 1977, Simonsen 1981, determines products belonging to at least the two former classes. F antigens are expressed in all nucleated cells and belong to class I.…”
