The longitudinal changes of serum JKAP and IL‐17A, and their linkage with anxiety, depression, and cognitive impairment in acute ischemic stroke patients

Abstract: Background: Our previous study discovers that Jun N-terminal kinase pathwayassociated phosphatase (JKAP) is dysregulated and negatively links with the disease severity in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients. This study intended to further evaluate the linkage of JKAP and interleukin (IL)-17A with anxiety, depression, and cognitive impairment in AIS patients. Methods: Serum JKAP and IL-17A levels in 120 AIS patients at admission, 1st (D1), 3rd (D3), 7th (D7) day after admission, and from 20 controls, were detec… Show more

“…After enrollment, stroke patients were evaluated by the mini-mental state examination (MMSE), and then the cognition impairment (MMSE score <27) was assessed ( 18 ). After admission, routine follow-up was conducted in stroke patients for 3 years, during which the MMSE score was recorded at year 1, year 2, and year 3.…”

“…The total score of each sub-scale is 21 points (HADS-A >7 indicates anxiety; HADS-D >7 indicates depression) ( 17 ). The MMSE was performed to assess cognitive impairment, and the highest score was 30 (>27 points indicates cognitive impairment) ( 18 ).…”

“…On the day of discharge, all patients were required to assess their anxiety, depression, and cognitive impairment using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale for anxiety (HADS-A) and depression (HADS-D), and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score, respectively. Patients were considered to have anxiety or depression if their HADS-A or HADS-D score was >7; and cognitive impairment was considered if their MMSE score was <27 ( 16 ). In addition, patients with MMSE score <20 (which might affect the assessment of HADS scores) when discharged or those that died after admission were not included in the analysis.…”
