The lncRNA ZEB1-AS1 sponges miR-181a-5p to promote colorectal cancer cell proliferation by regulating Wnt/β-catenin signaling

Abstract: Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are important regulators of the biological functions and underlying molecular mechanisms of colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the role of the lncRNA ZEB1-AS1 in CRC is not thoroughly understood. In this study, we found that ZEB1-AS1 was markedly upregulated in CRC. ZEB1-AS1 knockdown significantly suppressed CRC cell proliferation and induced apoptosis, whereas enhanced expression of ZEB1-AS1 had the opposite effect. Bioinformatics analysis identified miR-181a-5p as a candidate ta… Show more

“…However, the role of lncRNA MIAT in Cp or HI injury-induced brain injury is unclear. Numerous studies have shown that lncRNAs involve in biological or pathological process through regulating miRNAs [22,23]. miR-211 is a neuron-related miRNA that can inhibit neuronal differentiation in Alzheimer's disease [24].…”

“…Cheng R et al revealed that ZEB1‐AS1 depletion suppressed the growth, migration, invasion and EMT in cervical cancer, which may be achieved by inhibiting ZEB1 expression . Moreover, ZEB1‐AS1 depletion markedly restrained the proliferation and induced apoptosis in colorectal cancer, whereas ZEB1‐AS1 elevation elicited the opposite effect . A recent investigation demonstrated that ZEB1‐AS1 silencing triggered cell proliferation suppression and decreases in the cell number in S phase in liver cancer by targeting miR‐365a‐3p .…”
