The LMA CTrach™ in morbidly obese and lean patients undergoing gynecological procedures: a comparative study

Abstract

We concluded that the time to intubate the trachea in obese patients was significantly longer than in lean patients when the LMA CTrach was used.

Tracheal intubation in morbidly obese patients: a comparison of the Intubating Laryngeal Mask Airway™ and Laryngeal Mask Airway CTrach™*

“…Then, for both devices, we chose the appropriate size and performed tracheal intubation according to the manufacturers' recommendations. As in our previous study [12], we assessed for any leak with or without resistance to manual ventilation clinically, and if judged satisfactory, we inserted the dedicated tracheal tube, inflated the tube's cuff, deflated the ILMA's cuff and removed the ILMA with its stabiliser rod. For the CTrach, we attached the monitor after establishing satisfactory ventilation of the lungs.…”
