The lion with wings: innovation system dynamics in the aerospace industry of Singapore

Abstract: This paper investigates the emergence and growth of Singapore's aerospace manufacturing industry. Singapore is unique among latecomers in the sector, because of the continuous growth it achieved by establishing world-class component manufacturing and maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities. We use a sectoral innovation system dynamics framework to analyse the evolution of institutions and technological capabilities in the sector. Empirical evidence on innovative and productive activities shows that a strat… Show more

“…Such branches make wide use of advanced innovation solutions introducing composite materials, power units, digital technologies, etc., in the process of design, manufacture, and operation of helicopter equipment. It is innovation solutions that to a large extent determine competitiveness of companies, at the same time providing high requirements to the level of reliability and safety of helicopter equipment (Vertesy 2013;Osuch-Rak and Holnicki-Szulc 2015). All these predetermine an important place and role of innovations in the system of strategic priorities of helicopter industry companies' development.…”
