“…In a type three-level system with two ground state hyperfine levels, each coupled by a coherent light field to a common excited level as shown in Fig.1(a), the spectral width of the transparency window can be many orders of magnitude narrower than that given by inverse lifetime of the excited state |3> as the EIT resonance is associated with the atomic coherence between the ground state hyperfine levels. The narrow spectral width is of great interest for potential applications such as slow light and quantum information processing [3] and hence has been a subject of many recent studies where the power broadening effect of EIT resonance has been investigated as a functions of various parameters [4][5][6][7][8][9] . It is known that as the coupling laser intensity increases there is a power broadening of the EIT resonance and recently, it has been shown that [10,11] the spectral feature with sub-natural width can be recovered in an EIT system by introducing detuning between the coupling field and the atomic transition.…”
