The Lifetime of Excited O, S, Se, and Te Centres

Abstract

The decay of photoluminescence of these chalcogen centres in alkali halides is purely exponential. The lifetimes being constant at low temperatures are strongly reduced as the temperature is raised above certain limits. Activation energies for thermal quenching are obtained and discussed within the frame of an anharmonic Franck-Condon model.Das Abklingen der Photolumineszenz dieser Chalkogenzentren in Alkalihalogeniden ist rein exponentiell. Die bei tiefen Temperaturen konstanten Lebensdauern werden stark verkurzt, wenn die Temperatur bestimmte Werte ubersteigt. Aktivierungsenergien fur thermisches Quenchen werden erhalten und im Rahmen eines anharmonischen Franck-Condon-Modells diskutiert.
