The Life Cycle of the Rendezvous Problem of Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Networks: A Survey

Abstract: In cognitive radio or dynamic spectrum access networks, a rendezvous represents meeting two or more users on a common channel, and negotiating to establish data communication. The rendezvous problem is one of the most challenging tasks in cognitive radio ad hoc networks. Generally, this problem is simplified by using two well-known mechanisms: the first uses a predefined common control channel, while the second employs a channel hopping procedure. Yet, these two mechanisms form a life cycle, when they simplify… Show more

“…Furthermore, applications become more and more complex, quality of service (QoS) sensitive and computation intensive to perform on mobile system. Therefore, new solution concepts need to be developed that manage the computation and communication systems in a dynamically adaptive manner while continuously ensuring different application services [1,2].…”

“…Second, a BS equipment serves only radio frequency channels in each physical cell, where BS's resources cannot be shared with other BSs in different cells. Finally, BSs built on proprietary hardware cannot have a flexibility to upgrade radio networks [1,2].…”
